Albums of the Year 2013 - Four Stooges
Thu 23rd Jan 2014
The 2013 album podcast is now done: Last.FM Page for the 2013 Podcast
In the end I used the same recording setup as the previous year and that made mixing down a pretty quick job. There are a few points where the dialogue is a bit hard to hear but I couldn't really get around that: we just had the music up a bit loud and weren't talking above it enough. The main issue was deciding on a top 10. I had a few albums that were on my definite list but beyond those 3 or 4, every other album felt on a very similar level and my list changed daily, to the point where I was picking the final few right before playing.
It helped that Raul and Tom picked Shannon Wright and Jon Hopkins, both of which I really enjoyed. Jon Hopkins probably should be in my list, really.
I split the podcast up into 10 tracks this time, one for each of our four choices, so it's (hopefully) more manageable to listen to. There's also a somewhat NSFW image that Raul and Tom drew using my tablet prior to us starting that I have used as the image for the MP3s. If I regret anything from the night it's that there are a few too many penis jokes, but I'm glad I was relatively sober for this one.
I also could have done without AZ and Tom being so bored by my first choice they discussed a Snoopy toy. Damn, that's cold!
My 2013 top ten in the end
--------------------------
Modern Life Is War - Fever Hunting
Lizzo - LIZZOBANGERS
Colin Stetson - New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More Light
Tim Hecker - Virgins
The Night Marchers - Allez Allez
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Push the Sky Away
Tessellators - Harvest of Sorrow
Grouper - The Man Who Died in His Boat
Coliseum - Sister Faith
Marnie Stern - The Chronicles of Marnia
